  1. it depends on how deep under water - the Olympus Stylus 770SW can go as deep as 10m (or 33ft). http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1287
  2. Pentax and Olympus both make waterproof cameras. Look for the Pentax W20 or newer W30 (not that much difference) or the Oly 725 SW or 770SW Here's a spec comparison: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=pentax_optiow20%2Cpentax_optiow30%2Coly_stylus770sw%2Coly_stylus725sw&show=all the Oly's are a bit more expensive, but you can take them a little bit deeper. Your choice. they're all pretty good cameras.
  3. I work in the commercial diving industry and one thing you you should know is that saltwater is very corrosive. Any camera you buy should be rinsed well with fresh water after use. I noticed you planned to use this in Hawaii. Simply pouring some bottled water over it after use in saltwater would be fine. Just something to help you protect your investment.
  4. If want one without a case, Pentax has the Optio W30 but I would not recommend it - better yet, go to: http://www.sealife-cameras.com/ But I would still much rather get a regular camera and get a case for it.
