Underwater Camera Housings

Birth defects and working at a manufacturing facility?

Hi, I just found out I'm pregnant, and today noticed an odor of burning plastic, which is not odd for where I work- but now that I'm pregnant, I'm thinking about it... I work at a place that manufactures and sells Bicycle lights and underwater camera housings and now I am wondering if this is safe? Yeah this place is so small and kinda "out of the garage" place, that I am the accountant and they just threw the HR duties at me... So I am JUST hearing about OSHA...

  1. My suggestion is to talk to HR without admitting that you are pregnant. Find out what OSHA has said about your area. It may be a nonproblem. My friend worked at a food plant, and they moved her to a different station because of concerns of the fumes given off by the sealers that sealed food packages. There'd been no evidence that this caused a problem, but they had an equivalent job for her and just felt that it was a better choice.
  2. ask ur doctor it could be very dangourous to the baby Paige=)!!!
  3. my girlfriend had this problem, but instead of getting time off work she stayed until two weeks before her due date and her baby came out with cleft lip and some other birth defects. I would ask you doctor
  4. You should definately ask your boss or someone at the facility and let them know you are pregnant.
  5. Ask for the MSDS's for all the chemicals in the facility and read them. Take copies to your doctor. Congratulations.
