Underwater Camera Housings

underwater camera case options?

i plan on getting a new camera for my trip to hawaii next month, and since snorkeling is so great there, i would like to take underwater photos. what are my underwater camera case options? all the canon underwater cases are about 250$. total ripoff. is there something i can get for around 60$?

  1. Depends on the camera. I've got a canon powershot SD850IS digital elph which is pretty small. I paid somewhere around $150 from amazon for an underwater case. Believe me I thought I was getting ripped off as well but once you see the thing you'll start to understand why it is so expensive.
  2. Neil is right. If you think $250 is a ripoff, you would hate to buy one for a DSLR They can cost over $3,500. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/535008-REG/Aquatica_20058__Housing_f_Nikon.html For around $60 you can buy a highly modified double zip-loc bag with a lens port. Or you can build your own http://www.instructables.com/id/Camera-Zip-lock/ http://www.diyphotography.net/diy_the_cheap_yet_shamefull_underwater_housing http://www.juliantrubin.com/encyclopedia/engineering/waterproof_camera.html
  3. The waterproof bags are not very usable because you can't use the built-in flash. I have a Canon PowerShot A640 and the WP-DC8 waterproof case... it's wonderful, the camera become almost indestructible inside the case. The case is very big (like a full-frame dSLR) and it has a diffuser for using the built-in flash.
